About ROAM CIC
Outdoor Learning with Heart, Purpose & Impact

ROAM CIC is a not-for-profit organisation based in Yorkshire and Leicestershire, delivering life-changing outdoor education and adventure-based learning across the UK and beyond.

We believe that every person regardless of age, background, or ability deserves access to the outdoors. That’s why we create inclusive and tailored programmes that support people to grow in confidence, build stronger relationships, and discover new skills - all through the power of nature.

Why We Do What We Do

The outdoors has the power to change lives. Whether it's gathering around a campfire, learning to work as a team, or climbing a rock face for the first time, these moments help people connect to themselves, to others, and to the world around them.

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), we reinvest profits into projects that make the outdoors more accessible. So when you work with us, you're not just booking a session — you're helping others get life-affirming experiences, too.

What do you do at ROAM CIC?
I organise and lead our outdoor adventure sessions — making sure participants are safe, supported and (most importantly) having fun!

Experience & Background
I’ve worked in outdoor education for over 20 years, leading and supporting teams in a wide range of settings. That time has helped me understand how different people learn, grow, and thrive outdoors.

What do you love most about working at ROAM CIC?
Watching people find joy, connection and confidence in the outdoors — especially those little moments around a campfire.

What impact do you hope to make?
I want people to discover something new — about the world and themselves — and use that to move forward into better, brighter futures.

Favourite outdoor activity?
Definitely ghyll scrambling — climbing rivers and jumping off waterfalls!

Director & Instructor

What do you do at ROAM CIC?
I do a bit of everything — from youth work and delivering outdoor education sessions to arranging logistics behind the scenes. I’m lucky to have a pretty diverse skill set!

Experience & Background
I’ve been working with young people ever since leaving school, starting out as a football coach. I went on to run the NCS programme at Bradford City Community Foundation for 12 years, gaining lots of experience in outdoor learning and youth development.
Alongside my work with Roam, I also run an international education and volunteering company, leading trips across the UK and over 20 countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia.

Qualifications
• Extensive experience in youth development and outdoor learning
• International travel and expedition leadership
• Operations and logistics management

What do you love most about working at ROAM CIC?
Roam gives me a real sense of community and purpose. Every project feels like it’s genuinely making a difference — and it’s inspiring to work with such a passionate, creative team.

What impact do you hope to make?
I hope to help young people build confidence, resilience, communication skills and trust — both individually and as part of a team. Above all, I want to inspire a lifelong love of outdoor learning and a deeper connection with nature.

Favourite outdoor activity?
Canoeing — it’s an all-weather adventure and always a favourite with the young people we work with!

Fun fact:
I’m currently circumnavigating the planet in stages by land and sea… and have made it as far as Dubai!
